Scientists determine Beethoven had lead poisioning

I think it is so fascinating when current science and technology reveal more about past mysteries. This is one of those cases. When Beethoven died (of cirrhosis), many people came and took locks of his hair for keepsakes. Now, scientists have studied one of those locks, and determined that he also had lead poisoning, which probably made the cirrhosis worse and hastened his death.
